The Challenges in Covering Peugeot’s 508

I’D like to talk both more and more authoritatively about the impending 2011 Peugeot 508.
Hotly anticipated by many across the Pond, Peugeot’s slick new midsize sedan features handsome design that’s mainstream enough to even find a new breed of loyal American customers – but – the Peugeot site seems to have tombé en panne.
Chillingly familiar to 80s Peugeot survivors fans Stateside, the dodgy site ergonomics and a “Bad Request” return on a link clicked reveal that Peugeot.com – the French car maker’s international English language web presence – has some ways to go to match up to rival car makers’ global sites.
Kind of like Peugeot, en générale, je crois.

Not a typical Peugeot design indeed. Like Citroen does with their C5 designs, Peugeot is also looking carefully to the germans with this 508.
However Peugeot has allways been more succesfull in building smaller cars. That’s actually true for most French breeds.
My ‘large’ Frenche car top three:
1: Citroen c6 (retro authentic)
2: Renault Espace (timeless)
3: Peugeot 406 coupe (design)

Definitely a fan on the C6. Also like Peugeot’s cute little decapotable.

What do think of Renaults large decapotable, the espace based ‘Avant Time’

The rear hatch treatment is clever and eye catching. The rest of the design lacks the same inspiration, however. In a similarly creative vein, though smaller, I liked the original Audi A2.

Indeed, the audi A2 has some similarities. The Audi was even too innovative at that time (If they had launched it only 5 years later…)
