VOLKSWAGEN has enjoyed a history of wacky advertising on this side of the Pond.
Over the years, it’s really what set the German auto maker apart from the competition. You might’ve called them the Southwest Airlines of the automotive world – back in the day.
And while some of the edgiest (and most random) VW commercials may have aired most recently under Crispin Porter + Bogusky’s watch, there have been others.
This US TV spot produced by another ad agency with triple surnames – Doyle, Dane & Bernbach – serves as a kind of reminder that VW has always had a decidedly tongue-in-cheek message for potential US buyers.
DDB, incidentally, has done some recent work campaigning for the VW Golf in the UK.
