I won't deny that the cars have a lot of interesting little details, but they don't work well as a package. Look how the old Pagode SL evolved from the kind of car you'd expect Audry Hepburn to drive to the crude looking SL of today that you'd expect to see with someone wearing a bluetooth headset and loads of product in his hair. I came across a W140 dealer sales guide that had some interesting customer information in it. When compared to competitors, the S-class driver had the second lowest level of education. Only Lincoln town car drivers had less post secondary schooling. Just something to think about. I think it’s also a case of the cars being over styled and under designed. And what happened to the R230 SL wasn't so much a facelifting as it was a trip to the butcher shop. There seems to be some conflict at MB design that has them throwing back to the 80s conservatism at one moment and then being wildly avantgarde in the next. You’re right Chris. Just look at what happened to the SL recently. Also, do we really need a face lift? I'm still finding the styling of the w221 to be too modern over the w220. It's probably just me. I could be wrong, but I think I was reading the W221 will be replaced in 2012 after six years on the market. What happened to the decade long life spans of previous models?
