From The Archives: Mercedes-Benz Vintage Crash Tests

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Mercedes-Benz Vintage Crash Tests Video

THEY just don’t break ‘em like they used to. We’re so easily amused/horrified/interested in watching stock footage of safety tests from days gone by. Typically, these old reels serve as testaments to how far we’ve come (or haven’t) in passive cell technology.

In Mercedes’ case, it’s been leaps and bounds. For comic value, watch a Benz engineer get hit in the face with an airbag @ 00:35.

Achtung! Video auf Deutsch.

  2. To be fair, the old Bel Air test was offset, not head on. LOL, I think the V.O. guy who does the IIHS videos takes his vocal cues from James A. Fitzpatrick.
