Ferraris + Vipers = Beautiful Sunday AM

HARTFORD CO. is something of an anomaly.

In so much that Connecticut’s capital is a zero pit stop ride from New York, you’d think a little of Gotham’s glamor would rub off . Sadly no – as “The Insurance Capital of the World” Prudent-ially favors conservative Acuras RL’s, comfy Lexus RX’s, and the ubiquitous champagne E-Class Mercedes to anything remotely exotic.

Columbus, Ohio has more automotive color.

But for every rule of thumb, there is an exception that stands out in tutto rosso; sending the adjusters scrambling for the hills and delighting automobile aficionados to no end…

Each summertime Sunday deep in Glastonbury’s suburban confines,  a merry band of Ferrari owners congregate to deliberate on whose car’s finish shines brightest. The informal gatherings started from invites issued on

Surprisingly, the ‘tudes are (mostly) checked at the bridge over the Connecticut River. Here in the back lot of some freshly minted open-air mall, camaraderie trumps one upmanship.

Refreshing. And rare.  Given how so many egos start and stop with the simple twist of a car key.

Your correspondent’s ride – a Z4 on loan from BMW – fit in as one of the non-Italian outliers.

As did a possy of Dodge Vipers…

Who added some ‘Merican muscle to the Ferraristi’s prancing tour de force.

I did say most ‘tudes were checked…

But certainly not old rivalries…

Flat sixes, V8’s, V10’s, V12’s … John’s Porsche spun a familiar track. The year was 1984…

Dave and a Golden Eye generation, Z3 2.8.

Schnookums taking the driver’s seat for the first time in an exquisite Ferrari 348.

This driver more circumspect, his achingly beautiful Alfa Spider escapes my inquisitive nature, but not my lens…

Leon and Nicola comfortably pose with their Ducatis – 848 and 1098, respectively.

The sure sign of a well loved Ferrari is a happy owner.

Difficult to tell with some Viper aficionados, though…

Ladies in waiting…

John and his classic Teuton depart the a grand Italian-American Sunday concorso. As did yours, by way of Cloud Nine.
