that’s definetly THE muscle ferrari car! fat rear wheels, huge rear lights (without the grille is much better), the silver horse appears in the middle, the color is much better than the red, the targa top is interesting optional for sunny days at beach without loosing the coupe design that is much more beautiful than the spider one. Excelent machine, this is the ferrari a muscle car fan like me should buy! Congrats to the owner!

I don’t understand the controversy over 0-60 times. The 348 gets from 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds. Looking both back and forward at the years: (figures are estimates)

308 – 6.5
328 – 6.0
348 – 5.5
355 – 5.1
360 – 4.3
430 – 4.0 US, 3.5 (euro spec)

The 348 has kept up with the progression of 0-60 times of it’s surrounding models. If anything, it’s the 430 (US version) that wasn’t able to keep up the pace.

People keep judging the 348 as though it were a car of today’s times. For it’s day, it was a performer, no two ways about it. All the electronics (plus five valves per cylinder) in the 355, just made it a more smooth (but more disconnected) and MUCH more unreliable car than the 348 will ever be.

The only thing the 348 was ever lacking was a 6spd, and if we’ll remember, those came around far after the 348 was conceived.

Yes, well done. I couldn’t agree more with the thread here concerning the ever growing list of computer safety buffers between driver and car. But after watching Gunnar’s post on Mercedes interior sounds, I can see how it’s possible over analyzing and over thinking (or trying to keep everyone happy) can be to blame. By trying to keep everyone overly safe or content with changes, sounds, design, we end up with cars that are a little too…watered-down.

The 348 was a risk in someone’s eyes, but still loved dearly by some. It was more mechanical and I think this is what makes cars of the past special.

Been trying to decide whether I should comment on this blog. On one hand I want to thank G and congratulate him on yet another job very well done, and on the other I don’t want to appear motivated by self promotion. After much considering…Gunnar, GREAT JOB. You’ve made my car appear just as I’ve always imagined her, Majestic and personnal. I had a wonderful time introducing the two of you and want to apologize for driving a bit to briskly when you got out to take motion shots. Its the music that makes me do it, four toots from the Ferrari pipe organ to bath your soul in satisfaction under acceleration.

Oh how I long back to the age when there was no computer between me and the car!! Just spent three weeks in a brand new BMW 5 with all the e-toys aboard you can think of, and I hated them all. The car industry is clearly moving in the wrong direction these days for the more involved driver, and we all have to suffer the trend to make the cars demographics-safe. Nanny-free youngtimers like that 348 will soon be worth a lot of money!!

Euri- thanks for spending time with us you’re right about the rims. Mr Baker does have the originals with the PZeros but favors these aftermarket wheels that you see in the pictures.

Realy enjoyed this sunday afternoon lunch & ADLX F348 targa speciale!
I’m not sure if the wheels are the orinals mounted, but this ‘black on black’ edition is very nice.

Bravo…perfect article. I am familiar with Lane and his SS, both are top notch. I also drive a 348 and I truly believe it is one of Ferrari’s best. It is also the last of the “raw” cars, no assistance and all feel. It is a very personal thing to drive.
