FOLLOWING Ferrari’s recall of the spanking new, $200K+, 560 hp V8 458 Italia for spontaneous combustion of the most disastrous kind, the New York Times has reported that Ferrari’s since promised to replace every 458 Italia that has been destroyed by fire at no cost to the owner. As there were only five 458 Italias that have been incinerated so far due to a design defect, it’s not exactly a big loss for the Italian dream-maker.

What may loom larger in this bout of foul PR is that sticky 458-has-bad-juju superstition/rumor. Time to reconsider offering slotted gate shifters as an available option?
