eBay Watch: 1990 Ferrari 348 Spider

1990 ferrari 348 spiderby Gunnar Heinrich ::: img eBay ::: 1990 Ferrari 348 Spider

IN so much that I’ve been bitten by the Ferrari bug recently and can’t seem to shake it – fevers, chills, visions of chrome horses prancing wildly at night – yours ventured over to eBay and low and behold found this red on beige M.Y. 1990 348 Spider with 15K on the clock.

Mindful of the maintenance pitfalls that can come with Italian exotica, the 348′s current bid is nevertheless at a tantalizingly reasonable $21K.

Ferrari buffs note that the 348′s cubic corners don’t quite stand up next to the 355′s fluid curb appeal. In theory, I’d agree though that’s kind of like dismissing Fort Lauderdale for not being Miami. Florida’s twin cities are both sexy (though Miami still wins handily).

Much the same for the sweet 348. Grrrr, baby.

  1. nice, compact, ferrari, but I prefer the targa instead of the cabriolet

  2. Aw, go for it Gunnar. Ensure the service has been done so you’re set for a while.

    Consider this, that fetching lass you spend time with will sooner or later lure you into matrimony and parenthood and you’ll be out of the game for 20 if not 30 years. Then observers will roll their eyes at your mid life crisis mobile.

    Do it, now, you won’t regret it.

  3. E > the targa is superfine, I concur.

    Jim > was that just earnest life advice you offered? I’m touched. And tempted.

  4. Yeah, you can view it that way. I’m old enough to be your father and have had a few of those, gee I wish I had… thoughts. Some times you get a second chance or you find a substitute other times the opportunity passes. The tough decision is know which opportunities to grab.

    My philosophy on cars has been that if you can afford say $50K for a daily driver, you’re better served by a $25K driver and a $25K toy, whether car, boat or a couple of MCs A 348 is likely at or near the bottom of the market so you’re not likely to see much depreciation and if you were to keep it a few years, maybe a small profit. I can’t recall if the major service interval on this car is 12K or 15K, but in either case you probably can drive it for 3 years for oil changes but will be looking at about $5K for that pesky major service. IIRC the service kit is about $1,500 with the rest being labor and three years is enough time to learn how to do the labor yourself.

    You know your finances and your prospects and you’re the best judge as to whether its a good idea or not. Good luck.

  5. I like you POV, Jim. Duly noted.
