Parlor Trick: Ferrari Superamerica Flips Its Top

Ciao Superamerica! An Exercise In Customer Service

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: img Ferrari ::: Ferrari Superamerica 45

FERRARI’S latest is the Superamerica 45,  a one-off, bespoke model finished in “Blu Antille” and made expressly for an avid Ferrari-collecting New Yorker. Part of Ferrari’s “Special Projects” program, Superamerica bows today at the Villa D’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.

Somewhat ungainly in proportion – with high rear flanks and a somewhat awkward if briskly efficient flip-top roof panel last seen on the 575M Superamerica – the Superamerica 45 while a showcase for Ferrari design underscores the car makers commitment to an adage that much of the mainstream car industry has long forgotten in pursuit of profits: the customer is not only king; he’s always right.

Passione: Mille Miglia 1948

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Mille Miglia 1948

DOMINATED by Alfa Romeo in its pre-war years; Ferrari in its post, we salute one of the world’s greatest rallies – the thousand Roman miles or Mille Miglia. Regrettably, after 1957 the race was discontinued following two fatal crashes. But each year since 1977 the Italian GT race is memorialized – as it has been this very weekend in Italy. In this video, we see a newsreel recap of the 1948 race that saw the Ferrari 166 S Coupe Allemano take victory.

Vintage Bond: DB5 v. F355 Chase

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Golden Eye Aston Martin v. Ferrari F355

LOOKING back on Bond movies of the Pierce Brosnan era, the production values now seem a little cheesy. That doesn’t stop us from enjoying a good car chase through the South of France, though.

McLaren v. Ferrari v. Porsche

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: McLaren MP4-12C v Ferrari 458 Italia v Porsche (997) 911 Turbo MK2

ADMITTEDLY, this video’s quality is only fair. But reader, when I saw this tri-colore spectacle of fresh exotica positioned at a checkered line- particularly the minty McLaren MP4-12C and the Ferrari 458 Italia – I had to know which one would best the lot. Unfortunately, we only kinda find out as who arrived in third is anyone’s guess. Though, if I could guess…

Video: Funny Exotic Car Rental Advertisement

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Midway Car Rental LA

DAMN near soiled me-self when I saw this ad for Midway Car Rental – an LA-based exotic car rental agency. Aside from the most excellent production values, comic timing, and pop-culture refs (olympic rings, Charlieee…that really hurt!) the ad’s message is as straightforward as you can get – no matter how far down the chum list you are, cool cars get you serious entree (at least in SoCal). We demand a sequel!

Strangely, embedded coding was disabled – so click on the above picture to watch.

Pulling Away From A Lambo In A Ferrari 458

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Ferrari 458 Italia v. Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggra

AS super-legal road races go, dropping the hammer on the Ferrari 458 Italia against the F430′s raging nemesis – the Lamborghini Gallardo (in Superleggra) has to be a thrill. Not that this thrill always translates well to camera, but in this video the shooters and editor have done a good enough job for YouTube standards. Needless to say, the 458 armed with the latest arsenal in Ferrari engineering and technology pulls briskly away from Gallardo on multiple tries. The bull is left merely to rage in the 458′s dust.

This Week @ Coys: 1952 Ferrari 212 Inter Coupe By Ghia

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: img via Coys ::: 1958 Ferrari 212 Inter Coupe by Ghia

WHEN we think of Ferraris we think of that iconic rosso corsa finish painted on low, ass-engined super cars with intolerably low ground clearances and a flair for turning heads with high octane sex appeal. What doesn’t race to mind is the understated – if a little too anonymous- contours of the 1958 212 Inter Coupé.

Someone In The UK WOULD Buy A Maroon Ferrari 458

by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Maroon Ferrari 458

I could do a linguistic double play on the color maroon and the thought processes behind the owner’s purchasing decision where it pertains to the color of this Ferrari 458 Italia, but the fact is even in maroon, the 458 looks damn good.

But really? Maroon? There is always chrome.
