Carlsson On The Roof! Saab 92 Vintage Rally Documentary
by Gunnar Heinrich ::: YouTube ::: Saab 92 Vintage Rally Film
BEFORE Subaru or even Audi made their all-wheel drive presence felt at rally courses the world over, their was Saab which crafted a tight little, Alfa-like slope-backed car with a spunky four banger which fed power to just the front wheels. Saab employed a Swedish driver powered by his own turbo named Erik Carlsson.
Mr. Carlsson’s prowess behind the helm won Saab and Sweden proud notoriety in dirt track racing. This film, in dry Anglo-sprache, chronologues the successes of “Carlsson-on-the-roof” and the plucky Saab 92. It’s a reminder how lucky we are that there’s still a Saab in the world today.
Thanks, Jim!

One thing that amazes me about watching these is that the 92 & 96 models had 4 on the tree manual transmissions, none of that wimpy easy to manipulate floor shifters for you.

Yeah, that plus torsion bar suspension, woolly steering, drum brakes…
