Audi versus… A4 Advert Showcases Rivals

By Gunnar Heinrich :: YouTube

GOT to hand it to ‘em, Audi has some cheek.

Aside from Hyundai and GM which only use vague verbal or written references to their competition, Audi actually let us a visualize its marketplace rivals by showcasing their models stacked against the other guys.

In this particular advert, the Audi A4 squares off against the Lexus IS, Mercedes C-Class, and BMW 3-Series. Apparently, the A4 claims to be bigger and more fuel efficient than any of its contemporaries.

It doesn’t hurt that we can differentiate the two by noticing the Audi in diamond black and the rest trimmed in a grey-ish beige.

This spot reminds us of another rivalry that was recently exploited for one side’s publicity efforts…

  1. I also saw A4 display ads which highlight the dimensional difference between the Audi and the same rival models…perhaps the added back seat space is due to the FWD nature of the A4 vs. the RWD of the 3/C/IS?

    In addition, BMW has run ads in the US showing the 3 on a highway along with the same rival cars, plus others. Referencing the competition directly, something which some other car makes shy away from.

  2. haha…i think it’s funny how Audi thinks a LONGER A4 is necessarily better…

    on the contrary…it might work for the US market where big is better but I’m sure a lot of Europeans are shaking their heads thinking “how the heck am I going to be able to park this thing now that its about 5 inches( 120mm longer than the previous generation)…

    and by the way we were in the market for the new A4 but ended up purchasing a 3er instead – the 7 extra inches = parking nightmare…

    so thanks Audi, for making it an easy decision for us…

    though someone please correct me if the new A4 is actually selling well in the EU…

  3. Length for a compact executive car shouldn’t be the issue; but for those just starting families and what not that need back seat space, this is clearly the best idea.

    Parking an issue with just 5 extra inches over another compact? Try a W126 560SEL; I have to do it every day! A C/3/A4? I’d kill to park as if I were driving any of those.

  4. Yes, but the 560′s so much cooler…well worth the parking “hassle”

  5. The (old)A4 is actualy selling pretty ok in the EU. I think this is mainly a price issue. Audi is cheaper then the big German 2 (Merc/BMW). Nonetheless, they are pretty good car’s, the general public consider them as premium Volkswagens. (A passat with a shiny grill)
