WHENEVER I see a concept that’s been “unveiled” for a production car whose debut is still years off, my mind wanders to Conan O’Brien’s former Late Night skit “In the Year 2000″ where he and another dubious celeb would don Martian collars and point flashlight under the chins whil predicting mysterious if improbable events in “the future.” Their predictions were usually a little off.
And so it must seem with the “Boxster beater” R8 based mid-engined R2. Leave it to the Volkswagen-Audi Group to step all over themselves by introducing competing products (why does that seem familiar in a domestic sense?).
Trouble for us is, for all the excitement the little-roadster-that-might is generating – it’s introduction is still quite some time off. 2012, in point of fact.
Which means the design could change hundred times between now and then.
Where’s our little Martian costumes when we in the auto blogosphere need them?
